Doula Services

Here to help you achieve your best birth ever.

“Doula”: Greek for “Servant-Woman”

When starting a family, there are many choices to consider. New moms juggle decisions all along the way: To work throughout the pregnancy or take some time off toward the end? To birth in a hospital, birthing center, or at home? Cloth diapers or disposable? Breast milk or formula? In this swirl of decisions, it is easy to overlook the benefits of engaging a trained doula to attend your birth. Second time parents very often identify this as the “one thing” they wish they had done differently from their first delivery!

Milly Weis has been working in the field of pregnancy counseling since 2011. She graduated in 2013 with her BSN (receiving her licensure as a Registered Nurse that summer) and crash-coursed into her first “doula” training while working on a Labor and Delivery floor in South Florida. As a nurse, she broadened her scope to include prenatal testing, ultrasounds, and general care leading up to labor and delivery before transitioning into the private sector. In 2017 she made the leap from working for hospitals, providers, and clinics to working directly for the families she passionately served. This opened the door for her to attend births in hospitals, birthing centers, as well as homes.

She has attended a broad range of births and has hands-on experience with first time moms, 40+ y/o moms, vaginal twin deliveries, bereavement support, gestational diabetes, scheduled cesarean deliveries, preeclampsia, PTSD moms, support throughout newborn resuscitation, VBAC deliveries, water birth deliveries, inductions, sexually abused moms, and freebirths.

Here is some of what you can expect:

Before Delivery:

  • Birth-Plan Consultation: Determine the environment, support, and intervention that will most help you find peace. There are many examples of birth plans and she would love to help you fashion one that represents the intricacies that make each family, each birth, and each person unique.

  • Home Visits: No matter where you are planning to birth, much of your labor often takes place at home. Milly is available to answer any questions you have and make sure your space is ready and all needs are taken care of ahead of time.

  • Resources: Whether you are in need of lactation consultants, photographers, midwives or other pre- or postpartum professionals, she knows the people who can help and the information you need to make informed decisions.

At the Delivery:

  • On-Call Support: Milly is there every step of the way to support you over the phone and in person.

  • Continuous Labor Support: Suggesting positions, techniques and strategies that have been proven to help women have a healthy, safe and peaceful birth.

  • Essential Birth Knowledge: Milly’s goal is to partner with your other support people to tailor the birthing process specific to your needs. Her knowledge of birth, massage techniques, maneuvers, birth psychology, and rebozo aid in this achievement.

  • Cooperative Support: Whether you plan to have an OB, midwife, or just dad deliver, Milly’s objective is to provide you with the information needed to navigate your delivery as smoothly as possible. She is passionate about protecting the family’s autonomy in making the decisions for their birth and advocates for their decisions accordingly.

  • Holistic Care: Birthing does not only impact a mother. Milly sees the birthing process as requiring a broader, family-wide focus. For this reason she seeks to provide comfort and stability to the dads, children, grandmothers, and family friends during the whole delivery process.

Post Delivery:

  • Postpartum Home Visits: These checkups are geared to answer any questions you have regarding your recovery and your child’s development.

  • Group Meet-ups: Get connected to other moms, share stories, learn from others’ experiences, and gain more information.

  • Postpartum Consultations: Get more information regarding breastfeeding, diet, postpartum coping, exercises to support recovery, and family adjustment.

What People Are Saying

“…Milly was the one talking me through each contraction, guiding my thoughts and coaching me through the most useful positions to help move labor along smoothly. She brought me bananas and labor-aid, held the bucket for me to throw up in, provided counter-pressure for my back labor, literally held me up as I tried to climb the stairs, and coached my husband in how best to support me…

After the birth, I had trouble nursing...Milly took the time to comfort and sympathize and directed me to a wonderful lactation consultant who confirmed both a tongue and lip tie and coached me on positioning.

Milly called and texted several times in the following weeks to make sure things were improving and to offer encouragement.”

— Heidi D.

“…It can be really hard not to fight the contractions and Milly played a large role in helping me to work with them instead. Letting me know what I could do to make things easier and helping me not to feel embarrassed made a big difference for me.

She also was a big help with making sure I got enough fluids into me and a little fuel to get through it. It might sound silly but having someone to do that and bring it to your mouth for you is HUGE.

Milly is kind, friendly and supportive and I definitely recommend her as a doula. I’m really glad that she was able to be at my birth because it would have been a lot harder without her!”

— Danielle W.

“The support Milly provided during my labor was phenomenal and did not take away in any part the role of my husband. He actually felt more empowered with Milly there as she helped to coach him with the right things to do at the right time…She provided so much help with positioning, massage, physically holding me up to help relieve specific areas of pain during my labor. She gave me pep talks when I needed them and was a silent support when I needed peace and quiet…

One thing that reassured me the most was not only having Milly’s knowledge and experience as a doula to back me up but also her knowledge base as a former labor and delivery nurse. As a nurse myself I knew I could rest easy knowing she has so much medical knowledge to help support me as things change or don’t go quite as planned.”
